![]() ransomware, tech support scams etc.) or scamming money (phishing scams, bogus products etc.) in order to gain the most profits. The bad guys typically target the largest groups/most commonly used applications so that they can infect as many as possible when the objective is extortion (i.e. Is it possible? Certainly, but not very likely. That would be like the bad guys trying to use your AV to infect you. I do not see any issues or performance impact using these together, all fully enabled.Īs for attack surface, I'm not too worried about a blocking browser extension being leveraged in an attack, both because extensions are sandboxed within the browser (a security measure implemented in modern browsers), and because it wouldn't make much sense for attackers to target the kinds of extensions used by those who actually know the risks of online threats and ads and use such tools to enhance their safety/browsing. I'm currently using Malwarebytes Browser Guard, uBlock Origin, Ghostery, Disconnect, DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials, HTTPS Everywhere, Nano Defender and uBlock Origin Extra in addition to Web Protection in Malwarebytes Premium and a massive HOSTS file currently containing almost 1 million entries and counting. If it were cheaper I'd consider it, but now I just update uBlock Origin every couple of days.Endpoint Detection & Response for Servers Compare that to Apple TV or Netflix where you actually get original content updated regularly with decent writing, effects and established IP as well. That's far, far too high just to watch without ads. ![]() I'd probably subscribe to Premium if it was £6 or £7 per month. (Yes I’m aware that the relative wealth and incomes of UK vs Turkey are different therefore that’s why the prices are different, but it’s an identical service so it grates)This is just it. ![]() If I could be bothered to do that (I don’t want to have to create another YouTube account and start from scratch with recommendations etc) I would.Īs it is I just suffer the ads (on iPhone) If you VPN to Turkey or Pakistan or something then it’s 1/10th of the price. Why wouldn't you?!It’s £16.99/month last I checked. A few quid a month, you still support the channels you enjoy while never seeing any ads. I realise this doesn't direclty help YouTube to replace lost revenues (unless they take a cut of what the content creator is paid by the sponsor) but they're just going to have to be creative and come up with something better than the current shower. When it's done this way you can't block it and I've no desire to anyway as it's relevant and delivered by a presenter that has already engaged me. If they have an issue with lost revenue caused by ad blockers then they need to do better - plain and simple! I think Ratarossa (for example) has it nailed as he works with sponsors that are relevant to the subject and delivers the speil himself at an approproate moment. If there was no way to block such poorly timed ads then I'd stop using YouTube altogether. There were four lots of ads in 20 minutes and they kicked in when the presenter was mid-sentence. I tried to watch a 20 minute YouTube car video on my big TV via my Amazon Firestick and it was totally unwatchable. The issue is some of the functionality doesn't really work too well and I'm loath to pay for something if it only partially works. The issue is, the adverts ruin the content. There is a totally massive capital investment - and operational expenditure - in running the infrastructure that holds an immense amount of video and allows anyone to upload stuff to it to have it distributed to the World 'for free'.I do often wonder if I should really just pay up considering how often I use it. If you are 'consuming content' on it without viewing the ads (or subbing to a paid Premium account), then they are losing money serving it to you. Youtube isn't making money, that's the problem.
